Every Sunday, when I do the outfit planning live, I have already decided what I’ll be wearing the following week.
(BTW - I’m now doing these sessions on Substack instead of Instagram - find there here and here. And older session here and the latest one here. I’ll be doing them on my iPhone going forward so the quality should be much higher.)
What I don’t do immediately after having planned my 5 outfits is that I don’t try them on and evaluate what works and what doesn’t. Why? I don’t know. Maybe I should try. Especially when I come up with new combinations that may be more questionable.
Do you actually put on what you’ve planned to wear ahead of time, to give space and time for the possibility of small corrections?
As a consequence, let’s be honest, there’s been some mishaps this week. Nothing major …I guess. But big enough to bug me. I’ll try to go through my root cause analysis process in as much detail as possible.
Let’s dig into it!
Monday
So I spent USD 300 on a session with Allison Bornstein back in October last year and yet I go on and experiment looking for that holy grail. What’s wrong with me? ;)
Objectively, this is not a very bad outfit, but it just made me feel bleh.
It’s dull and I spent the day thinking I’d need to recreate it.
I know for sure that these beige pants work really good with white and light grey like here (sorry for the quality of this picture taken with an old iPad):
They also look cool with my green sweater, which I simply don’t see when I plan my outfits. I mainly look at what’s hanging on the two racks that I have in one section of my closet. The sweater is in a drawer in the other section. I do open it frequently but apparently not when I should the most ;)
Lesson learned. I went home that day and rearranged the closet a little bit. Now the green sweater and another knit ( a simple grey ribbed long sleeve from Arket) are on hangers, hanging where I can see them easily.
PICTURE FROM MY CLOSET
On the super positive side; completely fashion unrelated - we’ve been spoiled with the weather this week and on Monday i ended walking back home from the office in sharp sun and no wind. Felt like skiing in the Alps ;) More then 10,000 steps were in the book that day.
Tuesday
I absolutely love this sweater - a preloved piece from COS that I found at First Class 2nd Hand in Copenhagen. But do I like it with black? Now, that’s a different story.
The answer is no! It’s a disgrace to each of the colors. The contrast is simply too big. I like my blacks better with whites and beige or brown.
It did help however to calm down the look by tucking the shirt at the front. A quick fix I thought about in the office and immediately applied.
The day was saved! :)
And as to this greenish sweater - I think it looks stunning with navy or with something more glossy. This was such a great outfit that I simply should have repeated (Monday outfit in week #4/2025):
What I wore in week #4/2025
Welcome back to another week of exploring the depths of my closet! As I continue my journey of curating and rediscovering my wardrobe, I find myself constantly amazed by the versatility and potential of the pieces I already own. This week, I’ve been experimenting with different combinations, breathing new life into familiar items, and making some tough decisions about what no longer fits my style.
Or this perfect combo with the navy jogger from Tibi, where every piece seems to be playing the leading role - as Jalil puts it so poetically here.
Or even the combo from the last 2 pictures in this post is so much better:
Infusing more color into my looks
The eye adjusts. I never thought I’d even say this, not to mention experience it on my own, in my very own closet. But I have encountered the impossible become true. I have faced and conquered my own fear of color. The eye does adjust. I think I’m a believer now.
Well, again, lesson learned. Ewelina - just repeat what you know works. You don’t need to invent the wheel every damn time you create an outfit!
Wednesday
Yes, yes and a huge yes! :) This makes me just so happy!
The proportions are right.
The color combination is nailed.
I get the warmth that I need and I feel put together, yet super approachable.
The jacket and skirt are preloved and I’m getting a ton of wear out of both.
In case you’re curious, the shirt is actually not white but very light blue, which does make a difference up close. The brown boots add to the different textures and wintery colors.
I’ve recently worn an almost exact iteration of this outfit - funny enough also on a Wednesday ;) Check it here. Even the earrings were the same.
There you go! It’s ok to repeat an outfit! Especially if it makes you feel really good.
What I wore in week #6/2025
What do you do when you are sick? How do you show up for yourself and to the world around you?
But check also Tuesday here for another way I’ve worn the jacket itself.
What I wore in week #2/2025
This has been a good week. A very good one indeed. The first work week of the new year. I’m ready to up my game. I’m ready to become even stronger and take even better care of myself and my closet.
Thursday
Rewearing is caring…
Caring not only in the sense of sustainability, but also caring for myself and my sometimes overstimulated perception. Something, I’ve recently discussed with Xue in a comment to a one of her latest articles here on Substack.
I said “Less choice and lasting pieces - yes, please!”. Less choice comes also from simply repeating an outfit that you know works.
It’s not that a long time ago that I did an almost identical iteration of this outfit. Only one things is different. I wonder which version you prefer best.
I really like them both, but I do consider selling the jeans that I’m wearing here. It’a pair of black, wide leg cropped jeans from Toteme. They seem to be too classic for my current taste and the way I see myself and want others to perceive me.
I’m craving something more relaxed. Something more approachable. I’d rather give these jeans a new home where they can give the new owner the vibe that she or he is craving the most.
It’s not that I don’t like them. I actually like them a lot, but I can simply wear my dark navy corduroy pants or a pair of black pants instead here.
Friday
So, this was the day when I wanted to wear my vintage jeans from Dries van Noten but the day started with rain and I definitely did not want to come to the office with dirt on my pants.
Quick change of ideas et voila!
If you haven’t seen these grey, slouchy jeans before, there’s a good reason for that ;)
I’ve actually just bought them via Vestiaire Collective - a replacement for the black ones that I wore this week on Thursday. A couple of weeks ago, I had started thinking about the direction I want to go with my closet. This is when I spotted these beauties on VC. I almost never buy preloved pants online, as sizing, even with measurements can be tricky. In person is a different thing.
But I already have a pair of Haikure denim and I know my size, so it was a risk I was willing to take.
Could the jeans be even more slouchy?
Probably… but I’m happy with the fit as it is. I’ll report back if things should change. :)
Lots of love and thank you to every single one of you for subscribing to my Substack. This brings me so much joy. I’m literally smiling while I’m writing these words :) Also, a huge thank you to all of you paying subscribers. Your support gives me extra motivation and energy to continue writing.
The very best from me and Copenhagen,
Ewelina
I love that final pair of trousers with the letters(?) on them - so cool! I like all of your outfits - they all have a very comfortable feel to them, Ewelina.
"Do you actually put on what you’ve planned to wear ahead of time, to give space and time for the possibility of small corrections?
No, almost never. I know how most of my clothes fit me. I will "test drive" an outfit if it's for a special occasion or if I won't have time to futz with it. Sometimes I regret not trying on a new-to-me item with my older clothes, as I may not realize that the new piece needs a defined waist/a layer under it/other special consideration.
I love that blue turtleneck peeking out of the denim shirt, so chic
