What I wore in week #13/2025
In Copenhagen and visiting a novel to me destination in Europe
This was the week I turned 48. I spent it exactly as I like it best. In part in my favorite place on Earth - Copenhagen - and then the second half dedicated to travel and experiencing a new place for the first time.
Where did I and hubby end up celebrating my birthday?
Well, keep on reading and you’ll find out :)
So, was it a good week outfit wise? What did I wear and how did it make me feel?
Let’s take a look:
Monday
Let’s start with the easy one of this week. An outfit that felt both super chill but still put together. There was color - maybe slightly unusual color combination for what you typically see me wear here.
I was working from home and felt so comfortable, but without the loungewear element to it. So a slouchy combination, but in the most presentable manner.
Or should I say a mix of loose, oversized fits without looking sloppy.
Does it make sense?
So what did I wear?
A light blue oversized shirt with a greenish-yellowish slightly deconstructed jumper on top. What you see then at the bottom is a pair of Haikure jeans that unfortunately turned more blue than dirty-looking navy in the first wash. But I still love how loose and voluminous they sit on my body.
I topped it all with my old white sneakers from Toteme and a pair of pearl earrings.
It’s also finally the season for my thin puffer from Arket.
Tuesday
Oh, dear! This wasn’t an easy one
If you watched my Sunday outfit planning live…
…you know that the following outfit is what I originally planned to wear, while still in Copenhagen. I actually think, now that I look at the images a couple of days later, that it’s not a bad outfit per se.
There are interesting colors mixed together. There is pattern (the striped shirt). There are interesting details - the cut-out details of the sweatshirt and the unfinished hem of the midi skirt.
But, this just felt so wrong.
The sweatshirt, with the shirt underneath, creates too much bulk and is too stiff. Also, I don’t love that warm cement color any more. It’s just not that versatile in my wardrobe.
And if you’ve read my recent article “Am I ready for spring?”…
Am I ready for spring?
I don't have many different mood boards on Pinterest, but I do have a separate one for each of the main fours season and hence also for Spring.
…you know that the way my three adjectives are distributed in this outfit is just WRONG. I like the modern element at the bottom and not the top of my body.
…so, I changed…
I changed to this:
On paper, there’s again nothing wrong with this outfit. Ok, maybe it is slightly too tight for my liking. Or maybe it’s the way this color combination makes me feel.
What I know for sure is that this absolutely stunning faux suede jacket is after all too stiff in the shoulders for my liking. The shoulders are simply too emphasized.
And this is not a new thing. I mean this exact feature or characteristic is what bugs me so, so much, but sometimes I just get wooed by the idea of an item, a fantasy that I start seeing in my head, like a movie. …only, the fantasy never realizes itself; never materializes into a reality that I can relate to.
But you know what, it’s ok. We are only humans. Even with all the nerdiness about style and fashion, I still make fashion mistakes. I’m pretty sure I will keep on making them or my perception of what looks good on me and what makes me feel a certain way may change or most probably WILL change. And so will my closet. I choose joy over punishing myself for those less fortunate purchases.
When I came home from work that day, I had to immediately figure out how I could make this outfit work; how I could improve it with what I have in my closet to make it feel like me; like my second skin.
This is what I ended up with.
Can you see how relaxed my shoulders look? How the material of the jacket gently follows the contours of my top body?
I could have also added a chunky statement necklace or a bigger brooch to introduce even more interest and multi-dimensionality to the look, but I’ll settle for this.
BTW - I’ve already sold the cut-out sweatshirt from Tibi (via Tibi fans) and I’m also selling the faux suede jacket. :( This is how it goes sometimes. I cannot always make the right choices.
In fact, maybe the wrong choices make us crystalize our style. What do you think?
Wednesday
Another work from home day and outfit.
And yes, I love wearing shoes at home if they go with a given outfit. I mean, after all, I’m also indoors when I am in the office, where I wear my shoes, so why shouldn’t I be wearing them at home too? ;)
Preloved pants with a preloved top plus old cashmere cardigan, a snake print belt from last year and newish black pointy boots to add sharpness to the look.
I wouldn’t change anything. I felt great!
Thursday
The first day of our travel. The alarm clock rang almost an hour earlier than usual. We had an early flight to catch.
This was also the day of my birthday :) and hubby and I were heading to Antwerp.
The weather was supposed to shift quite a lot - from 16oC and sunshine to 10oC, some wind and clouds. When packing my carry-on luggage I knew I had to wear as many layers as possible for the travel part itself.
The below outfit is pure joy, warmth and comfort. Nothing to change and a lot to repeat.
Here’s the first celebratory drink, a little bit away from the most touristic center of Antwerp. We enjoyed a really good bistro kind of lunch and recharged our batteries only to set off to start our exploration of the city.
Here am I arriving at the mothership of Dries van Noten. An incredibly beautiful store, …where you’re actually not allowed to take any pictures.
And here’s my evening look - a trusted combo, I’ve tried a couple of times before: lace camisole and a short cashmere cardigan jacket. At the bottom I’m wearing the same pants as the following day.
My husband treated me to a plant based gourmet dinner, which we both (yes! Also my husband!) enjoyed a lot! If you’re ever going to Belgium, which, I’m just guessing, will almost certainly be to visit the city of Brussels, then it’s only 45 minutes away from Antwerp.
Planttrekkerij is worth going to Antwerp for.
It was a really good day and I like my life and me at 48 ;) The Danish flag is a Danish custom to show that you are celebrating a birthday. Danes have probably the most relaxed and casual approach to the flag, which I’ve also started to appreciate.
Friday
After sleeping at least 9 hours, we woke up feeling… like we could sleep another 2 :)
Well, truth be told, we did make almost 20,000 steps yesterday.
So many small treasures to see and experience.
Friday was supposed to be less strenuous.
Well, it wasn’t really. When I’m writing these words, we have already walked all day and made 12,500 steps …and we still had to go out for dinner.
Today, I’ve worn my preloved wool pants from Joseph, the Dries suede sneakers, a warm cashmere jumper in ecru, 2n hand silk scarf from Magda Butrym and again the light puffer from Arket.
We visited two very interesting 2nd hand stores, but more about the shopping experience in a separate post.
The best and completely free of charge touristic experience in Antwerp today was the world’s oldest escalator - a wooden escalator to be more exact! It’s used by the locals to cross the Scheldt river. After two floors of escalators, we then had to walk through a 500m long tunnel that most people were actually traversing on their bikes.
We’re staying in Antwerp until Sunday. I’m sure we’ll do even more walking tomorrow. But let’s end this post here.
With love - from Antwerp this time,
Ewelina
Happy Birthday, Ewelina!💕 I am 10 years older than you!
One of my mottos is “just keep going” and I also had a couple of outfits this week that didn’t quite work out. You just have to move on, learn your lesson, if possible, and try again.
I have blogging friends in Antwerp. I hope to go there one day to see them.
Happy happy birthday, Ewelina! Looks like a fantastic trip! I love the final output of Tuesday’s outfit. I do think sometimes we need to make purchases/outfits that aren’t quite right for us in order to better understand what is.
